  • ITINERARIES AND TOURS

Eastern Highlands is one of the destinations which is still in its pristine natural condition. The region has the country’s biggest tea plantations, second highest waterfalls in Africa (Mutarazi Falls), longest zipline in the world (skyline), highest point in Zimbabwe (Mt Nyangani: 2,595 metres above sea level). Eastern Highlands is also known as the Birder’s Paradise as most unique birds are found in this area. One of the world’s beautiful and longest zipline is also found in the region giving all adventure junkies.

Rafting: The amazing adrenaline rush you get from rafting will continue to rush back every time of your experience. Do you know that Pungwe River situated in Honde Valley is one of the unique white water rafting destinations? Each year, the Mountains and River Festival brings people from all walks of life to enjoy great outdoor activities. Far and Wide offers unique experiences for every level of rafter and includes quality equipment, experienced guides and priority on safety.

Hiking: The Turaco Trail is Zimbabwe’s most beautiful and challenging hiking trail. It takes hikers on a journey through a vast mountain wilderness of wild rivers and waterfalls, forests, montane grasslands, valleys, gorges and mountain peaks. The trail head is at FAR and WIDE Zimbabwe situated in the Mutarazi Falls National Park in Nyanga in Zimbabwe’s Eastern Highlands. The trail itself extends through a corridor of wilderness that connects the Mutarazi and Nyanga National Parks and winds its way up to the summit of Chikorokoto, down into the Pungwe Gorge and along the Pungwe River to its confluence with the Nyazengu.

Here, hikers have the choice of carrying on down the Pungwe River and back up along the Chikorokoto ridge to FAR and WIDE (usually a three night hike) or, for an extra two night hike, crossing the Pungwe at its confluence with the Nyazengu and taking on the challenge of the Nyazengu Loop which takes you up around the top of the Nyazengu Falls, along the beautiful Eastern Ridge and back down into the Pungwe Gorge or ultimately on up over Mt Nyangani and down to Aberfoyle Lodge.

Mountaineering and Skydiving: Mountaineering differs from other outdoor sports in that nature alone provides the field of action and just about all of the challenges for the participant. Climbing mountains embodies the thrills produced by testing one’s courage, resourcefulness, cunning, strength, ability, and stamina to the utmost in a situation of inherent risk. Mountaineering, to a greater degree than other sports, is a group activity, with each member both supporting and supported by the group’s achievement at every stage. For most climbers, the pleasures of mountaineering lie not only in the “conquest” of a peak but also in the physical and spiritual satisfactions brought about through intense personal effort, ever increasing proficiency, and contact with natural grandeur. All this, you can get in Honde Valley: the range of mountains are simply beautiful beyond the singing of it.

Skydiving has always attracted thrill seekers and daredevils. Whether you’re interested in overcoming a fear of heights or feeding an adrenaline sports addiction, skydiving won’t disappoint. Not only is Honde Valley home to some of the Manicaland Province’s most abundant bananas, but it’s also the launch pad for some of the region’s most daring adrenaline junkies. It’s hard to imagine more stunning scenery than this!

With a birding list of more than 670 species and some of the most beautiful birding areas in Southern Africa, Zimbabwe is a wonderful birding destination. The main birding attraction is the Eastern Highlands consisting of the Nyanga Highlands, Honde Valley and Vumba Highlands and is home to some of the most sought after specials in Southern Africa. Birding habitats in this country varies from Miombo Woodland, Montane Grassland, Forest, Riverine Woodland, Wetlands and Savannah. A birding trip to Zimbabwe can easily be combined with a trip to Zambia, Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique.

Depending on our target attractions and the obtaining weather conditions, a decision would be made as to where to go on a specific day to optimise enjoyment of the visitors’ stay in Honde Valley. It will be intended to get up very early in the morning with a quick cup of coffee and a hearty breakfast to get us going. Besides attractions in Honde Valley, we will head to Nyanga National Park, Ziwa Culture, also in the Nyangani Mountains and the Bvumba Mountains in Mutare.

Pungwe Falls is also one of the most beautiful attractions to visit when in Nyanga. This is one waterfall which is not popular but very beautiful.
Before flying back home, we recommend flying to the international renowned Victoria Falls.
